ふくろうさんと子猫ちゃん（The Owl and the Pussy cat）

ふくろうさんと子猫ちゃんが
お豆のさやの船に乗って
大海原に漕ぎ出しました
蜂蜜と5ポンド紙幣にくるんだ
沢山のコインをもって

フクロウさんが　空をみあげて
ギターにあわせて歌いました
「こねこちゃんたら　こねこちゃん
なんて可愛らしいんだろう
君はとってもかわいいよ」

こねこちゃんは　こういいました
「あなたもとてもすてきだわ
わたしたち結婚しましょうよ
とても長く待ったんですもの
どこかで指輪をみつけましょう」

そうしてふたりは航海を続け
一年と
一日後に
陸に上がると
そこには大きな木が生えていました

そして子ブタさんもおりましたが
その子ブタさんの鼻の先には
その子ブタさんの
鼻の先には
丁度良いリングがついていました

エドワード・リアのナンセンス・ポエムとして有名になりましたが、原曲があったのかもしれません。

でも豚さんの鼻先がリングに見えたなんて、滑稽ですね。

　　The owl and the Pussy cat went to sea
　　in a beautiful pea-green boat,
　　they took some honey,
　　and plenty of money,
　　wrapped up in a five pound note.

　　The owl looked up to the stars above,

　　to the land
　　where the bong-tree grows;

　　and there in a wood a piggy-wig stood
　　with a ring at the end of his nose,
　　his nose,

　　with a ring at the end of his nose.
