　　子猫がベッドで寝てるのは何故？
　　「病気なのさ」とハエがいった
　　「もしかしたら死ぬかもしれない
　　それでベッドで寝ているのさ」

　　あらまあ　何の病気なの？
　　「破傷風で顎が動かないのさ」
　　毛のふさふさとした白鳥がいった
　　「それが子猫の病気なのさ」

　　誰かおかゆを作ってくれない？
　　子猫がこれ以上悪くならないように
　　ワンちゃんが子猫を看病してる
　　ワンちゃんにおかゆを作ってもらおう

　　子猫の病気を治せるのは誰？
　　「わしじゃ」とミスター・パンチがいった
　　「わしの背中にはこぶがあるが
　　わしは立派な医者なのじゃ」

　　子猫の病気は治るかしら
　　「治りますよ」と鹿がいった
　　「去年もそう思いました
　　病気はきっと治りますよ」

　　子猫の病気がよくなったら
　　みんなでお祭を催しましょう
　　動物たちも空飛ぶ鳥も
　　みんなで鐘を鳴らしましょう

病気の子猫を森中の動物たちが力を合わせて直してあげるお話です。ドクター・パンチのハンチ（こぶ）のことが出てきたり、お話の流れがあちこちするのは、脚韻（ライム）を合わせた結果です。

　　"A locked jaw is come on",
　　Said the fine, downy swan,
　　"And that's her disorder".

　　Who makes her nice gruel?
　　That she might not get worse,
　　Dog Tray is her nurse,
　　And makes her nice gruel.

　　Pray who is her Doctor?
　　"I", said famed Mr. Punch.
　　"At my back a great hunch,
　　But I am her Doctor".

　　Who thinks she'll recover?
　　"I do sir", said the deer.
　　"I thought so last year,
　　I think she'll recover".

　　And when Puss is quite well,
　　We shall have noble fair.
　　Beasts and fowls of the air,
　　And we'll ring the great bell.
