毛布をまとったおばあさん There was an old woman

　　おばあさんが毛布をまとって飛び上がり
　　はるか月の彼方へ飛んでいきました
　　どこまでいくのかは誰も知りません
　　箒にまたがっておばあさんはゆく
　　「おばあさん　おばあさん」とわたしは呼びました
　　「そんなに高く飛んでどこへいくの？」
　　「空にかかったくもの巣を掃いに行くのさ」
　　「わたしにもご一緒させて」
　　「気をつけて　ついておいで」

箒にまたがって空を飛ぶ魔女のお話は、昔からイギリスの子どもたちになじみの深いものです。乗り物が何故箒なのかは、よくわかりません。ここでは、おばあさんは、くもの巣を払うのに箒が都合いいからと説明しています。
